Coffee:Water Ratio
Ratio Wrap Up
With Sensei Joe
As intimidating as it sounds, this really is a straight forward concept. I will explain with a simple 12 ounce cup of coffee. The ratio is 1:16 and if you stick to the same unit of measurement, (ounces are easiest!) there is almost no thought required to the problem.
Let’s say you only want a single 12 ounce cup of coffee. It is as easy as- amount desired÷16 and it is as easy as inserting that into a calculator. 12/16=.75. Just like the water, you need .75 of the coffee to do this so it is as easy as .75 ounces of ground coffee. Easy!
In the same manner let do 20 ounces. 20÷16=1.25. So that would be 1.25 ounces of ground coffee. (Just remember more water means more coffee grounds, and less water means less coffeegrounds). In the next video we will discuss how 16 is the magic number in this ratio and how you will always be able to solve how much ground coffee you need for any amount of water. In the third video we will discuss what to do when you have .86 ounces of coffee left in your coffee bag, we will figure out how much water we need to use to brew that last pot of great coffee!
